It should be like this - regular retirement of failed helmets

How long does a hat last? If you like, you can wear it for as long as you want. But what about hard hats used in the workplace? In an oilfield operation area, if a helmet is damaged or has been in use for more than two and a half years, it must be replaced. So far, the operating area has recovered 162 expired or failed helmets.

"Safety helmets and other protective equipment must not be 'stitched' or extended for another three years. They can't just be 'not bad'—they need to meet strict safety standards," said the deputy director of operations.

According to him, the operating area was established over three years ago, and hundreds of helmets were distributed to various positions. However, the service life and performance of the helmet must meet required standards to ensure effective protection. The "Helmet Production and Use Management Practices" clearly states that helmets must be scrapped after two and a half years from the manufacturing date. Additionally, any helmet that has suffered severe impact, damage, or deformation should also be discarded.

To address this, the operating area initiated a comprehensive inspection of all helmets currently in use. Helmets that have exceeded their service life, show no gap between the shell and the liner, or are damaged or deformed are identified and managed collectively by designated personnel at the material management station.

To ensure nothing is missed during the recovery process, each production unit has assigned a specific person to collect unqualified helmets at fixed locations. Each team leader is responsible for checking the condition of each helmet and its manufacturing date, then handing over any non-compliant helmets to the designated recovery site.

So far, all 162 expired helmets have been moved to the yard for proper disposal. To ensure compliance, every basic unit is required to carefully inspect helmets. Any that fail inspection must be promptly handed over to the safety and environmental protection department for proper recovery and disposal. Using substandard helmets on the production site will result in disciplinary action. Contractors are also required to follow the same standards and regulate the use and management of safety helmets on-site.

It is reported that the operating area will improve and maintain a detailed helmet management ledger. This will include records of the manufacturing date, effective usage period, distribution, and usage information. Based on these records and actual needs, the area will manage the purchase, release, use, and scrapping of helmets in a standardized and unified manner.
