Recently, the Taiyuan North Depot launched its second "Qinghu Firefighting" campaign aimed at preventing and reducing fire incidents during the winter and spring seasons. This initiative was carried out in conjunction with the 2014 Spring Festival of Railway and the National "Two Conferences," ensuring a safer environment for workers and passengers.
To support this effort, the depot established a dedicated "Qinghuo Fire" campaign leadership group, conducting thorough inspections of potential fire hazards across the Duanguan area. Through administrative and legal measures, they implemented comprehensive rectifications to eliminate fire risks and prevent major fire accidents. The team clearly defined the scope of the campaign and focused on removing dry and flammable materials such as weeds, leaves, and debris from various locations—especially in high-risk areas like oil storage facilities, paint warehouses, wood storage areas, acetylene and oxygen stations, labor insurance stores, and abandoned buildings.
A systematic and regular approach was adopted to clear flammable materials around fire-prone zones, significantly reducing the risk of fire disasters.
**The campaign focuses on achieving the “Four Enhancementsâ€:**
First, power management has been strengthened. All doors, windows, electrical gates, and switches must be properly closed after work and especially before holidays. Power distribution cabinets and boxes should be secured to prevent unauthorized connections or overloads, thereby addressing potential electrical vulnerabilities.
Second, the control of “using fire, oil, gas, and welding†and the prohibition of smoking in flammable or explosive areas have been reinforced. Regular checks and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment are conducted to avoid malfunctions that could lead to fires.
Third, legal education and awareness campaigns have been intensified. Workers and commuters are encouraged to follow station regulations and cooperate with staff. Workshops have also improved the management of access channels, ensuring that gates are securely closed to prevent unauthorized individuals from bringing flammable or hazardous items into trains.
Fourth, fire prevention inspections are being conducted in high-traffic areas, vehicle parking zones, material storage sites, and dormitories. Residents are educated on safe practices, such as avoiding the use of high-power appliances and not discarding cigarette butts carelessly. Open fires and fireworks are strictly prohibited in designated fire prevention zones.
Additionally, the management of fire-fighting equipment has been tightened. All fire extinguishers, hydrants, and emergency exits are inspected regularly to ensure they remain functional and unobstructed. Any blockages or issues with these critical resources are promptly addressed.
In terms of implementation, the principle of “whoever is in charge, is responsible†is strictly followed. A solid management system has been put in place, with clear roles and responsibilities assigned to personnel. This ensures that all fire-related issues are identified, tracked, and resolved effectively. Serious violations and hidden dangers are investigated thoroughly, and accountability is enforced through assessments and supervision of relevant workshops and departments.
