One firefighter secured Master Xu onto the stretcher, and the team on the surface carefully pulled him out of the deep hole.
When the reporter arrived at the site the next morning, construction was still ongoing, and workers were continuing to reinforce the structure. A worker told the reporter that Master Xu had been taken to the Affiliated Hospital for treatment. “He’s okay now. Thanks to wearing a helmet, otherwise it could have been much worse,†the worker added.
In the emergency room at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui, the reporter met Master Xu. “He has a fractured rib on the right side and some internal bruising, but there’s no immediate danger to his life,†the doctor said. Xu recounted how he had slipped while standing near the edge of the well. “I didn’t expect something like this to happen,†he said. “Now I just have a broken rib.†He was later moved to the cardiology and thoracic surgery ward for further observation and treatment.
