Italy: Steel production from January to November increased by 11.8% year-on-year

Relevant media on December 20th news: Despite the financial crisis overcasting Italy, the country's steel output rebounded strongly from January to November 2011 and increased compared with the same period last year. According to data released by the Italian steel mill and transformer association (Federacciai), the country's steel output in the first eleven months of this year increased by 11.8% year-on-year to 26.673 million tons. The country is the second largest steel producer in the European Union. In November this year, the country's steel output increased by 12.2% to 2.566 million tons. Federacciai's release of steel data coincides with investors expecting Europe to face difficulties as the region is suffering from the debt crisis for most of this year, and everyone believes that steel demand and production will also fall. The data shows the contrast between the state of Italy's economy and its steel output, and may become an inherently strong indicator of the steel sector. But with major steel companies in Europe announcing production cuts, steel production in the next six to 12 months is not optimistic.
