Eighty percent of consumers prefer solid wood furniture
According to recent reports, an increasing number of consumers are choosing solid wood furniture over other materials. This trend is driven by the environmental benefits, durability, and natural aesthetic appeal of solid wood. During a visit to several large home stores in the city, reporters interviewed random customers and found that nearly 80% of them preferred solid wood furniture for its eco-friendly qualities, practicality, and long-lasting appearance.
In response to this growing demand, many home furnishing stores have started offering more solid wood options. For example, at the fifth floor of Hall A, there's a brand called Louvre Palace, and on other floors, the number of solid wood furniture shops has also increased significantly. A sales representative shared that many customers now specifically ask for all-solid-wood furniture, especially those with young children.
Understanding the Difference Between Solid Wood and All-Solid Wood Furniture
The furniture industry has long had certain standards when it comes to what qualifies as solid wood furniture. However, these rules changed after the implementation of the new "General Technical Conditions for Wood Furniture" in 2009. This updated standard clearly defines various types of wood furniture, including "solid wood furniture," "wood panel furniture," "comprehensive wood furniture," "all-solid-wood furniture," and "solid wood veneer furniture."
"All-solid-wood furniture" refers to items made entirely from logs or solid wood finger joints, without any MDF or laminate. On the other hand, "solid wood furniture" may use solid wood boards or sawn timber, with a finished surface or a solid wood veneer. While some panels may be used, they must still meet national standards. It’s important for consumers to understand these distinctions to avoid confusion.
Be Aware of Misleading Claims
Retailers who label their products as solid wood or all-solid wood must strictly follow the new regulations. If they don’t, they could be accused of misleading consumers. Always check the product specifications and look for clear labeling to ensure you’re getting what you pay for.
Price Isn't Everything
Many people assume that higher prices always mean better quality when it comes to solid wood furniture. However, this isn’t always the case. The price can vary greatly depending on the type of wood used, craftsmanship, and finishing techniques. For instance, traditional Chinese mahogany or European-style solid wood furniture tends to be pricier due to strict material selection, drying processes, and precise joinery. Meanwhile, cheaper woods like pine are often used in more affordable models.
Additionally, store location and marketing strategies can influence pricing. Even the same product might be sold at different prices in different locations. To make an informed decision, consumers should research materials thoroughly, compare prices across different retailers, and prioritize quality over just cost.
