Cao Jianlin said that since 2000, China's R&D investment has been growing faster than GDP growth, with an average annual growth rate of over 20%. In 2012, China's R&D expenditure reached 1.024 billion yuan, accounting for 1.97% of GDP. Correspondingly, China has achieved a number of internationally leading and inspiring major achievements, and has achieved remarkable results in supporting economic and social development. The average annual growth rate of technology contracts in the country has exceeded 20%. In 2012, it reached 643.7 billion yuan. The total output value of high-tech industries in the country continued to grow rapidly, reaching about 10 trillion yuan.

Cao Jianlin said that in supporting the transformation and upgrading of the industry, the Chinese government is committed to promoting the integration of science and technology into the main battlefield of the economy, and has launched a major project with obvious industrialization goals. For example, high-end chips, high-end digital machine tools, oil and gas exploration technologies, etc., since its launch in 2008, the cumulative new output value has exceeded 1.1 trillion yuan. The contribution rate of scientific progress has increased from 39% in 2001 to 51.7%. In agriculture and people's livelihood, in recent years, China's agricultural science and technology progress contribution rate has increased by about 1 percentage point per year, currently reaching 54.5%. In terms of basic research, technologies such as aviation and “deep sea” have made major breakthroughs.
