Big Internet is the trend of traffic monitoring

In the context of the Ministry of Public Security's strategic planning and deployment, by 2015, a nationwide video image scheduling and sharing system for public security agencies was set to be implemented. This initiative clearly indicates that the "big internet" of video surveillance is not just a trend but an inevitable development. It brings significant opportunities for the intelligent transportation system, enabling better integration and utilization of resources across different regions. The concept of a large-scale network in intelligent traffic monitoring systems allows for the full exploitation of video surveillance resources, preventing information silos caused by isolated systems. By integrating with toll collection, emergency response, and command dispatch, it plays an irreplaceable role in improving efficiency and coordination. For instance, tracking vehicles during major events or conducting cross-provincial highway monitoring can be extremely resource-intensive. A national highway monitoring network would significantly enhance police efficiency, overcome local limitations, and promote true resource sharing. Moreover, the integration of monitoring systems should avoid redundant investments across departments. Information from traffic, security, and urban management should be shared horizontally. At a single monitoring point, cameras from different departments may overlap in coverage, leading to unnecessary waste of human, financial, and material resources. This redundancy often stems from a lack of unified planning and networking, resulting in isolated systems that fail to coordinate effectively. The large-scale traffic monitoring network aims to break down these barriers, creating a unified and collaborative system that is built once, used by many, and triggered at one point, yet coordinated across multiple locations. A great example of this progress is Jilin Province, where the public security video surveillance system has seen rapid development. Over 88 county-level and above public security monitoring centers have been established, and a three-tier platform system—provincial, city, and county—has been successfully networked. In Harbin City alone, more than 4,788 public area surveillance facilities have been installed, over 210,000 social site cameras have been integrated, and 80,000 surveillance devices have been connected, forming a comprehensive "Control Network" system with three defense lines and three layers of protection. As the country continues to emphasize intelligent transportation, the smart transportation market is expected to experience explosive growth. Breaking through existing regional resource constraints has become an unavoidable trend in local intelligent transportation development. Advanced technologies are increasingly playing a vital role in making "intelligent and safe transportation" a reality, benefiting society as a whole.
