Ningbo Ninghe Power Motorcycle Parts Co., Ltd. recently shipped 5,000 inner pan head triangles to its customers, which will be installed on the engine casing of FAW-Volkswagen vehicles. This unique fastener is designed to be tightened in only one direction and cannot be loosened again, ensuring a secure and permanent fit. According to Liu Pingping, manager of procurement and sales at the company, only two manufacturers in China currently have the capability to produce this specific type of fastener. The company’s components are now being used in core engine parts of well-known automotive brands, marking a significant achievement in their industry.
Established in 2010, Ningbo Ninghe Power Motorcycle Parts Co., Ltd. is located in the Beilun Chunxiao Ecological Industrial Park. As a Sino-foreign joint venture, it specializes in the production of high-quality automotive fasteners, with annual sales reaching 30 million yuan. Its primary clients include FAW-Volkswagen and Audi, and the company has built a strong reputation for reliability and precision.
In the broader manufacturing sector, a certain level of product defect is often acceptable. However, in the automotive parts industry, especially when it comes to fasteners used in critical engine components, a 100% defect-free standard is non-negotiable. Liu Pingping explained that during the assembly process, car engines are put together by automated machine lines. The installation of fasteners is done by robotic arms, which operate based on precise computer settings. If a fastener’s dimensions deviate even slightly, the robot arm will fail to grip it, causing the entire production line to halt. These stoppages can be extremely costly—some major OEMs charge up to 2,000 Euros for just five minutes of downtime and 200 Euros for one minute. Despite the low cost of individual fasteners, which may only be a few cents, the pressure to maintain perfect quality is immense. To meet these demands, the company not only conducts manual inspections but also invests in advanced imaging systems to thoroughly check every part. Full inspection ensures that each fastener meets the highest standards. While the risks are high, the profit margins are better than those of ordinary fasteners, and orders remain steady. As Liu Pingping noted, success ultimately depends on strong internal management and strict quality control.
Beyond size accuracy, another critical factor in automotive fasteners is their ability to prevent leaks. Last year, Ninghe Power developed an oil plug bolt with an additional layer of adhesive, enhancing the seal between the bolt and the engine housing. This design improves heat resistance and prevents the bolt from shrinking or loosening during engine operation or shutdown, reducing the risk of oil leakage. The bolt has already been adopted by several models from Shanghai General Motors, further solidifying the company’s position in the automotive supply chain.
