MDF brief introduction

MDF, short for Medium-Density Fiberboard, is a type of engineered wood product commonly referred to as fiberboard. It is manufactured by soaking wood chips, branches, and other plant materials in water, then grinding them into fine fibers under high heat and pressure. These fibers are mixed with adhesives such as urea-formaldehyde resin before being pressed into panels under high temperature and pressure. This process results in a uniform density, making MDF highly versatile and easy to shape, cut, or paint. MDF is known for its smooth surface, good impact resistance, and relatively high strength compared to other types of board. However, it has some drawbacks, particularly poor water resistance. When exposed to moisture, MDF can swell or degrade quickly, which limits its use in wet environments. To improve its performance, some manufacturers treat MDF with water-resistant coatings or sealants. Medium- and high-density fiberboards are produced using small-diameter wood pieces that are crushed and processed under extreme conditions. This makes MDF an excellent choice for furniture, cabinetry, and interior design projects where precision and aesthetics are important. In China, MDF is considered one of the most popular and widely used artificial wood products due to its affordability, availability, and adaptability in various applications.
