The lightning protection device tester is also called varistor tester, discharge tube tester and lightning arrester tester. It is suitable for zinc oxide surge arresters (varistors), metal ceramic two or three-electrode discharge tubes, vacuum tube, etc. Measurement of DC parameters of protective elements. Can also be used for voltage regulator, constant current power, used in other areas.

First, the working principle of lightning protection device tester:

When measuring a varistor, a DC/DC converter is driven by a certain high-frequency pulse to increase the DC voltage of 12V to the DC high voltage required when testing the varistor. When testing the discharge tube, the slope control circuit controls the DC/DC converter so that its output voltage rises to discharge tube discharge at a rate of increase of 100V per second from 5 to 1999V.

Second, the scope of application of lightning protection device tester:

It is applicable to the measurement of DC parameters of overvoltage protection components such as zinc oxide surge arresters (varistors), cermet two- or three-electrode discharge tubes, vacuum lightning protection tubes, etc.

The use of lightning protection device tester:

1. Power Supply The back panel of the unit is equipped with an external AC power three-pin socket. Can access 220V, 50Hz AC. Accessories are equipped with AC power cords.

This machine is also equipped with an external DC power supply 12V/0.5A input jack, the core of the "+" pole. Users should pay attention to the polarity and wire diameter when providing the power cord.

2. Prepare to set the self-locking key switch on the instrument panel to the high position. Adjust the “high voltage limit” knob clockwise to the end (maximum) and the “voltage preset” knob to the end (counterclockwise). Insert the test line prepared by this unit into the test hole of panel “+” and “-” respectively. Connect the external power supply to the corresponding power socket (hole) on the backplane.

Turn on the power switch. If the instrument displays "000", the instrument is normal. Otherwise it is abnormal.

3. Test 3.1 Varistor test "Varistor/discharge tube" selection switch high (varistor), "single/continuous" switch set high (single), access test according to 4.2.1 Products.

Press the "high pressure start and stop" button, press the "test" button after turning on the high pressure, the display will immediately display the breakdown voltage (U1mA) of the varistor under test, the unit is "V", and will be displayed after about 2 seconds. The screen automatically displays the leakage current (I0.75U1mA) in units of "μA". The green indicator lights up synchronously with the leaking current display and disappears after about 2 seconds.

3.2 Discharge Tube Test 1) General Method (Recommended)

The "varistor/discharge tube" selection switch is set to low (discharge tube) and the "single/continuous" switch is set to high (single).

Press the "High Pressure Start/Stop" button. After the high pressure is turned on, press the "test button". The test voltage will rise from the voltage preset value at a rate of 100V/S until the green indicator lights up. At this time, the display shows the voltage of the ignition voltage of the measured discharge tube.

2) Screening method "varistor/discharge tube" selection switch is set to low (discharge tube), "single/continuous" switch is set high (single), adjust "voltage preset" knob clockwise to end. Press the “High Pressure Start/Stop” button to turn on the high pressure, the high pressure indicator light is on, and the display shows the output voltage value of the instrument. Adjust the "High Limit" knob to the desired value (upper limit of the test range). Adjust the Voltage Preset knob to select the desired (lower limit of the test range) voltage.

Connect the tested discharge tube to the test line and press the “High Pressure Start/Stop” button. If the buzzer sounds an audible warning, the measured discharge tube ignition voltage Vsdc is less than the “preset voltage” value (lower limit of the overrange). At this point, the high pressure should be turned off promptly to remove the tested product, otherwise it will be re-ignited. If the buzzer does not sound, it means that the measured value of the ignition voltage Vsdc of the discharge tube is greater than the "voltage preset" value. Click the "test button" to continue to the next step.

After pressing the "Test" button, the test voltage rises from the voltage preset value at a rate of 100V/S. After the green indicator lights up:

If the buzzer does not sound, the display will show the value of the measured ignition voltage of the discharge tube in the measurement range.

If the buzzer sounds, the display will show the upper limit of the measurement range. At this time, it means that the ignition voltage Vsdc of the test object is greater than the upper limit of the measurement range (upper limit upper limit) and there is no ignition. In this case, the "test range upper limit value" needs to be increased and the test is repeated.

The green indicator light and the synchronized display value (with squeal in the overrange range) disappear for about 2 seconds and then return to the preset state.

Remove the measured discharge tube while the green indicator is on. After the preset voltage is restored, connect the tested discharge tube for the next test.

3.3 Continuous Measurement Continuous measurement can be performed by setting the "single/continuous" switch to the low (continuous) position.

4, self-test and other 4.1 varistor test 1mA value test Select "varistor" test, open the high voltage, preset voltage is adjusted to more than 10V, shorted test hole "+" "-" end, the display should display " 000”, long press “Display Conversion” button, it should display “1000”. 4.2 Varistor test 0.75U1mA value test The test terminal is open. When the test button is pressed for test, the display should show the upper limit value of the range. Pressing the “Display change” button for the green light time period should display 0.75 times the upper limit value of the range.

4.3 In the process of testing the test sample, press and hold the “Display Conversion” button: Display the value of 1mA (1000μA) for the test condition in the U1mA measurement period and the value of 0.75U1mA for the test condition in the I0.75U1mA measurement period.

Others, the use of voltage preset and span adjustment function can be used for 1999V/1mA DC voltage regulator source and 1mA constant current source (1mA test current when the load current reaches 1mA instrument constant use), with the use of "display conversion" key, can measure the load Voltage, current (V/I characteristic) value.

5. After the test is completed, click the “High Pressure Start/Stop” button to turn off the test voltage and turn off the power switch. When using an external DC12V DC power supply, remove the power cord.
