British plastic packaging manufacturer RPC has agreed to acquire Icelandic plastics and parts manufacturer Promens Group for £307 million (386 million euros).
The Promens Group has 40 plants, 35 of which are located in Europe. There are about 3,800 employees.
RPC issued a statement saying its board believes that the acquisition of the Promens business is well suited for RPC, and the combination of the two businesses will create a strong European platform in the rigid plastic packaging sector.

RPC added that the acquisition extends RPC's business to multiple end markets, creating important opportunities to enhance compound growth, scale and reduce costs.
RPC said that the acquisition of Promens will bring niche technology to it. As the group expands further, its demand for polymers will also increase. It is estimated that the annual demand will increase from the original 325,000 tons to 445,000 tons, accounting for 4.5% of the total polymer production in Europe for rigid plastic packaging applications.

In addition, RPC also announced its half-year results: sales for the first six months ended September 30, 2014, sales rose 12% to 588.9 million pounds (743.5 million euros). Profit before tax rose to 34.9 million pounds (44.1 million euros) from 30.1 million pounds (38 million euros) in the same period last year.
