In recent days, a new type of fraud has been reported in Huai Shang District, Handan City, where delivery drivers were lured into paying deposits only to be scammed at the entrance of marketplaces. Local police have issued a warning to the public, urging them to remain alert and report such incidents immediately to avoid falling victim to scams.
On a recent occasion, Mr. Sun was delivering goods from Huainan to Handan when he arrived at the gate of Century City in Huai Shang District. As he was about to enter, two men in their early 30s approached him and claimed that he needed to wear a helmet on-site and pay a deposit of 600 yuan. After Mr. Sun paid the amount, they asked for his driver’s license before issuing a deposit receipt. However, as soon as he retrieved his license from the car, the two men vanished without a trace.
Similarly, Mr. Wang, who was delivering goods from Lu’an City, encountered a similar scam at Yiwu Trade City. Upon arrival, a man in his 30s stopped him and said he was there to pick up the goods. The man then led Mr. Wang to a food market entrance and demanded that he wear overalls and a safety helmet, along with a 2,000-yuan deposit. After Mr. Wang handed over the money, the man quickly left the scene, leaving him confused and out of pocket.
Local authorities in Huai Shang have reminded delivery drivers and the general public to carefully verify the identity of the person receiving the goods. They also advised people to be cautious if someone requests a deposit under various pretenses. If any suspicious activity is noticed, it is strongly recommended to contact the police immediately.
