Portal frame design specification

Currently, the technical specification "CECS102-2002 for steel structures of light-weight houses with portal frames" is being used. When designing roof purlins and wall girders, engineers often refer to the "Technical Specification for Cold-Formed Thin-Walled Steel Structures GB 50018-2002." Although both specifications are related, they differ in their design approaches. One key difference lies in how the bracing affects the calculation of the effective length of purlins. According to GB 50018-2002, if a brace is located at the far end of the purlin, it can be considered as providing out-of-plane support to the distal flange. This support effectively reduces the calculated length of the purlin, which can lead to more efficient and optimized structural design. Understanding these differences is essential for ensuring that the structure meets safety and performance requirements while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
