Iranian Defense Minister Ahmed Vahidi stated that Iran has become one of the 10 countries that have mastered carbon fiber production technology. Wahidi said that carbon fiber can be used in a variety of advanced defense systems, such as air-jacket heat shields, lightweight elastomers of solid fuel, multiple fighter jets, and wings and fuselage of civil aircraft. Carbon fiber can also be used to make light weapons.
In addition, carbon fiber can also be used in civil engineering projects, including the reinforcement of buildings, the construction of crude oil and natural gas drilling and mining platforms, the manufacture of aircraft braking devices and train cars, and the production of some sports equipment.
Vashidi said that since Iran is still under sanctions by the United Nations, other countries in the world are prohibited from providing Iran with the materials and technologies needed to produce carbon fiber.
