According to a report by the Kyodo News Agency on September 20, two companies, Nippon Paper and Shikoku Chemical Machinery (located in Kitajimacho, Tokushima Prefecture), announced the development of a new paper container on the 19th. The container has a switchable lid that replaces the plastic bottle. Under the situation of reducing the trend of plastics at home and abroad, we will start selling to beverage manufacturers in the next fiscal year.
Compared with plastic bottles, the new container can reduce the amount of plastic used by about 70% in the case of 250 ml. The two companies have developed new filling systems because they have not been able to load beverages with high viscosity or solids such as smoothies. The new container can also be filled with porridge and soup.
Since plastics cannot be decomposed and disappear, marine pollution caused by extremely small "microplastics" is considered a problem. The micro-plastics accumulated by human fish and shellfish may have adverse effects on human health, so discussions on strengthening international restrictions are also underway.
Japanese paper maker Ma Chengwenxiong stressed at a press conference held in Tokyo: "Paper packaging will become a big advantage in the process of going to plastics, and I hope to promote it quickly."
